CHILE. 8 Reales, 1789-So DA. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. NGC EF-45.
KM-39; FC-28; El-39; Cal-Type-85 # 733. Mintage: Unknown. Three-year type. The coveted and RARE first-year issue for Charles IV that borrows the previous bust of Charles III. A wholesome, lightly toned example with more luster in the fields than is typically seen at the grade level. Several prominent die cracks, most notably one that extends from the obverse rim at 1 o'clock through Charles' eye, add character to the appearance. An important transitional issue for the advanced collector of Spanish colonial crowns.
From the Santa Fe Collection.
Ex: Amat Collection (Ponterio 3/1991) Lot # 82.
Estimate: $5000.00- $7000.00
