CHILE. 8 Reales, 1806-So FJ. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. NGC MS-61.
KM-51; FC-46a; EL-60; Cal-Type-86 # 761. Mintage: 155,000. A miraculous survivor of the date which exhibits near-prooflike gleam in the fields, a strike that leaves no design element to the imagination and tone-free surfaces that are absent marks that capture the eye's attention. Likely the finest survivor of the date, the next closest coin in the NGC census is an EF-45, and no other examples, be they in digitally archived auction records, or in older collectors such as the Faistauer (1976), Johnson (1981-3), Norweb (1985) or Amat (1991) collections, come close to rivaling this piece.
From the Santa Fe Collection.
Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
