GRENADA. Bitt (9 Pence), ND (prior to 1787). NGC POOR-1; Countermark: EF Standard.
2.30 gms. KM-1; Prid-1. Incuse "G" countermark on an 1/11th of a cut Spanish Colonial bust 8 Reales of Charles III. The countermark is deeply impressed and nearly complete with just a sliver of the right hand side of the "G" over the edge. The host coin is virtually worn slick with just enough details to identify it as a Bust 8 Reales. Light attractive mottled grey tone with nice slate patina in the recesses.
Originally valued at 9 Pence but then reduced to 6 Pence by authorization of the 21 March 1787 Act.
From an old South African Collection of a British Colonial Family.
Estimate: $600.00- $800.00
