JAPAN. Akita Province. 4 Momme 6 Bu, ND (1863). PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield.
KM-10; JNDA-09-72. Value in four characters vertically at center of thin silver bar with rounded ends. Four circular stamps each side with an additional character stamped near top of obverse, bottom of reverse. The denomination stamp is bold, clear and evenly applied while the stamps near the edge are partially struck up as is common for this issue. An attractive example of the type displaying rich medium grey to slate patina throughout.

An interesting fact about the Akita and Morioka province issues is that the denomination stamps are applied with a gang punch rather than individual punches. This is the reason that so many of these have uneven or cockeyed denominations and parts that are weak or sometimes missing altogether.

From the Kyle Ponterio Collection.

Estimate: $350.00- $500.00
