ITALY. Venice. Off-Metal Gold 1/2 Scudo, (ca. 1700-09). Alvise Mocenigo II. FINE DETAILS.
cf. CNI - Vol. VII, pg. 356 # 8; cf. Papadopoli - Vol. III, pg. 565 # 12; Fr-Unlisted; cf. KM-453 (in silver). Bright with pebbled surfaces from long-term usage in jewelry (until recently, this coin existed in non-numismatic hands and was set in a bezel) and a plug appearing at 12 o'clock where a hole once existed. Despite these flaws, apparently EXTREMELY RARE, and perhaps entirely unique in this metal, with no other examples found or cited during our research. Despite this, its existence in gold is not entirely shocking, as Venetian non-gold denominations from this period were often struck in gold in extremely limited quantities for presentation purposes. Considering this, a potential once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire an items that is without duplication in any other collection ever formed.

Note: Due to this coin's past usage in jewelry, both NGC and PCGS have decided to not certify it (tags included). As such, no returns will be accepted on the basis that future attempts to certify are unsuccessful.SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS.

Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
