NETHERLANDS. Printing Press Tercentennial Silver Medal, 1740. PCGS SPECIMEN-62 Gold Shield.
63mm; 78.15 gms. Van Loon-145. By M. Holtzhey. Commemorating the 300th anniversary of the Printing Press. Obverse: Personification of Haarlem seated facing, holding fasces and sacrificing from patera over lighted altar; cherubim around, ocean in background; Reverse: Laurens Janzoon Coster displaying printing die for the letter "A" to Minerva; cherubim to left with printing equipment. An impressive piece with rather high relief, this well struck, attractively toned example offers some hints of cobalt throughout along with pleasing underlying luster. Fairly SCARCE, especially this charming.
