SPAIN. 8 Escudos, 1786-S C. Seville Mint. Charles III. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned.
Fr-283; KM-409.2a; Cal-Type 29 # 260. A boldly struck example with good definition of the fine details accentuated by a lovely old musty skin. The design features are highlight by an attractive golden-orange patina with the open areas a bit brighter. The piece exhibits signs of an old cleaning, but has long since toned over. Despite its shortcomings a presentable high grade example of a SCARCE type.
In 1786, the gold coins of Spain were debased from .901 to .875 fine, a change marked on this eight escudos by the addition of rosettes bracketing the date.
Estimate: $1200.00- $1600.00
