GERMANY. Bavaria. Civil Merit Order of the Bavarian Crown Commander's Breast Star, Instituted 1808. VERY FINE.
87.2 mm. 66.7 gms. Barac-144; Werlich-476. Eight point faceted silver star with wreathed multi-color enamel central medallion inscribed VIRTUS ET HONOS around a central crown. The blank reverse shows eight construction rivets, a central medallion with a GM hallmark, and has a hinged double tunic pin. Also apparent from the reverse is that two of the star tips have been expertly repaired. Considerable green enamel has been lost from the delicate leaves in the wreath, and there are deep surface chips to the red band around the crown. Housed in its original octagonal leather and fabric presentation case, which is complete but in need of minor repair. This rare Order is much more attractive in hand than in this description, and must be seen to be appreciated.
