GERMANY. Bavaria. Military Merit Order of St. Michael, II Class Breast Star With Swords, Instituted 1866. EXTREMELY FINE.
71.5 mm. Barac-179; Werlich-471. An eight pointed multi-rayed silver star with a gilt silver Maltese cross with blue enameled arms, along with a central black enameled medallion bearing the crowned cipher of King Ludwig III, surrounded by a white enameled belt inscribed "MERENTI. Crossed swords are attached to the topmost ray of the star. The reverse is unembellished, except for the maker's medallion of Weiss & Co. of Munich. There are five assembly rivets on the reverse and the single hinged tunic pin is inscribed 900 indicating the silver content. There is a small area of enamel loss to the right arm of the cross, and two other arms each have a very slight surface chip.
