GREAT BRITAIN. The Most Noble Order of the Garter Silver Breast Star, Instituted 1348. NEAR MINT.
85.5 mm. 62.69 gms. Barac-706; MYB-1. Eight pointed multi-ray faceted silver star with a central medallion portraying the red enameled Cross of St. George surrounded by a blue garter inscribed HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. The reverse with two fixed and one hinged tunic pins is blank except for an oval maker's medallion inscribed Mon. PAUL STOPIN / A. DUPETITBOSQ / SUCCESSEUR / 231 PALAIS ROYAL. The hinged tunic pin is embossed with the French eagle head hallmark usually intended for items made of gold, although no part of this badge appears to be gold. Even with a few tiny scuff marks on the highest parts of the red enamel of the St. George Cross, this is an exceptional example of this premiere Order.
