CANADA. Bank of Ottawa. 5 Dollars, 1900. CH #565-16-04. PMG Very Fine 25 EPQ.
An extraordinary offering of this extremely rare Bank of Ottawa issued note. The face displays dazzling honey gold undertones, with cool blue serial numbers. Portrait vignette of Charles Magee seen at left, with parliament building at center. The reverse design is in forest green ink, with two allegorical figures seen at center flanked by a floral design. Obligations are seen at both ends. Fully original paper is welcomed.

The Bank of Ottawa was founded in 1874 by settlers of the Ottawa valley, and issued notes until 1919 when it was purchased by the Bank of Nova Scotia. Five Dollars bills of this style were issued in 1895 and 1900, with both being incredibly scarce, and tightly held by collectors for how precious they are. According to PMG's population report, just two 1900 Five Dollar notes have been encapsulated by their service, both being Very Fine 25's, but with this note attaining the EPQ designation. Therefore, this is the finest known certified example by a major grading service. The Charlton book lists just three known, with one being held in an institution.

Estimate: $20000.00- $25000.00
