THRACE, Odessos. Circa 80-72/1 BC. AR Tetradrachm (33mm, 16.29 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Lak(o)–, magistrate. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; ΛΑK in left field, star below throne, ΟΔΗ in exergue. Callataÿ Group 3, unlisted issue, but struck from obverse die D10 from Group 2; Topalov, Odesos, Series 32, Issue 83 var. (ΛΑ in left field); Price 1195 var. (same); HGC 3, 1589; Rauch Summer Auction 2011, lot 131 (same dies). Toned, area of weak strike, some die rust on obverse. Good VF. Extremely rare variety, one of only two published, and an important die link, using a Group 2 obverse with a Group 3 reverse.
