The denomination of this issue is not certain. Peykov and the ANS sylloge call them eighth staters, while HGC makes the argument that they are twelfth staters. Both may be correct. As noted in Peykov, the weight range of the published examples vary greatly, between 0.70 and 1.24 grams. However, examination of 113 pieces in CoinArchives reveals that examples tend to cluster in two distinct ranges, from 1.15-1.24 and 0.90-1.00, which would be consistent with issues at the eighth and twelfth stater denominations, respectively.
