AUSTRIA. Silver Medal, ND (1709). PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
Julius-722. Endowed with a dark silvery tone with no noticeable field marks. EXTREMELY RARE in silver composition, this being the only example we have located.

This medal commemorates the efforts taken by Louis XIV to obtain a measure of peace in the Hague between France, Holland, and England during the War of Spanish Succession. France had been brought low by the harsh winter of 1709, and did not have sufficient funds to pay the army to continue offensive operations at the Dutch border areas. However, the mood in the Hague was not sympathetic and, in fact, became more harsh as 1709 dragged on. Louis XIV left negotiations frustrated and simply appealed to his subjects to support him in resisting the dishonorable terms offered by Holland and England.

Estimate: $500.00- $1000.00
