EGYPT. International Bicycle Tour of Egypt Silvered Bronze Medal, 1955. NEAR MINT.
60 mm. Obverse: Domed obverse shows cyclist riding across a world globe, with legends and date in both Arabic and English. Reverse: A map of Egypt with the race routes indicated. The race seems to have started in Port Said, then crossed the Nile Delta to Alexandria. After that there were more southerly routes back to Port Said, or a much longer trek down the Nile as far as Luxor. An attractive and unusual medal, issued at a very turbulent time in Egypt's history, still housed in its original green leather presentation case.
Estimate: $150.00- $250.00
