FRANCE. Quintet of 19th Century Portrait Bronze Medals (5 Pieces). Grade Range: EF to MS.
40.4 to 60 mm. Collection of medals honoring notable Frenchmen. Included are two different medals of naturalist Georges Cuvier, an unusual uniface medal of author Benjamin Constant, and a generic portrait medal of the French Grenadier. Also included in this lot is a stray medal of Belgian Industrialist Charles Marcellis. Two seem to be of special note: the Grenadier medal was issued in 1815 and is actively sought after by collectors of Napoleonic medals, it is cataloged as Bramsen-1701. Also one of the Cuvier medals is a dramatic 54.8 mm piece in exceedingly high relief signed J. B. MAIRE / 1845.
Estimate: $150.00- $300.00
