GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, ND (ca. 1136-45). Uncertain Mint and moneyer. Stephen. NGC VF-35.
1.40 gms. S-1278; N-873. Cross moline (Watford) type. The types of Stephen are almost always encountered very crudely struck and many times difficult to determine in terms of both the mint and the moneyer. NGC has attributed this piece to Richmond mint, with Bertoaldus as the moneyer. If so, a very rare mint, but this cataloger could not confirm either the mint or moneyer. Only a die match with a more certain attribution could shed further light on this potentially RARE issue.
Estimate: $300.00- $450.00
