POLAND. Bronze Medals from the "Suite of Polish Rulers" Set (12 Pieces), ca. 1795. Grade Range: EXTREMELY FINE to PROOFLIKE MINT STATE.
A remarkable grouping of over half of the very scarce Suite of Polish Kings Medals by J. P. Holzhaeusser and J. J. Reichel, which were produced in the 1790's by order of Polish King Stanislaw II August Poniatowski. All are 45 mm and feature a bust of the ruler on the obverse and biographical information on the reverse. Included are medals of Kings (and 1 Queen) Boleslaw I, Wenceslaus, Władysław I, Jadwiga, Władysław III, Casimir IV, Louis I, John I Albert, Sigismund I, Władysław IV, Michael I and John III. Several of these show interesting die cracks, cuds or evidence of die buckling, indicating that they were produced near the end of the usefulness of their dies. A rare opportunity to get a head start on this extremely hard to assemble set of medals. Single medals are seldom offered, and this nicely matched grouping of 12 of the 23 Polish Regents medals is a truly rare opportunity for the collector!
