FRANCE. Architectural Cathedral Medals (9 Pieces). Grade Range: NEAR MINT to MINT.
A choice grouping of 59 - 60 mm medals, primarily by Jacques Weiner, depicting churches and cathedrals in France. The first 7 are from Wiener's second series of 41 medals, each with an intricate view of the edifice on the obverse, and an incredible, almost three dimensional view of the interior of the building on the reverse. One additional medal, of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, also from Wiener's second series, gives Jacque's brother Charles credit as co-engraver. The final medal, while outwardly similar to the others, is actually a 60 mm bronze medal by C. Jehotte commemorating the new prison in Veurne, Belgium. The medal was produced during the construction of the prison (1873-1875) and had a reported mintage of just 75 pieces. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS.
Estimate: $350.00- $500.00
