From the Summer Haven Collection.

With Trajan's death, his successor Hadrian inherited a Roman Empire in turmoil from his predecessor's over-ambitious conquests. His first reaction was to abandon all of Trajan's recent annexations, including Mesopotamia and Parthia. Dacia, however, he decided to retain, as the hard-won province had proved to be rich in precious metals and recruits for the army. This sestertius, part of Hadrian's "Travel Series," celebrates the province by depicting a male personification holding a Roman military standard and the deadly Dacian falx, a curved two-handed sword.
