Black Sea Region(?). ca. 3rd century B.C. 22.59 mm, 7.93 g). Host coin may be from Pantakapaion Many of their AE coins bear deep C/M's. A C/M punch deeply driven from reverse created a high-relief head in the middle of the coin while totally obliterating all traces of the original obverse. The head is beardless with long hair, perhaps Apollo, but might be female? A C/M of helmeted Athena is sometimes seen on these, but this does not seem to be Athena / a few bits of the host coin remain visible on reverse, a clear letter "A" and what might be an "I" below it. Also the corners of an upright semi-rectilinear appearing device - perhaps a bowcase or quiver? (or a ship's ram) - extend beyond the margins of the punch. The void in the center of the punch created a raised feature which might have been supposed to be a bull's head with horns? Or it might just be a random gouge in the punch?. VF (C/M), host coin obliterated, light green patina, very sharp head in C/M on obverse..

It looks as though the host coin might be Pantakapaion "head of Poseidon/prow? issue (Cf. MacDonald 125)
