Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Bronze, 20 mm, 3.53 g, 6 h), an interesting contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, after 317-318. IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Crispus to right. Rev. CLARITAS REIPVBLICAE / F - T / BTR Sol standing front, head to left, nude but for chlamys, raising his right hand in salute and holding globe in his left. Cf. RIC 157-158, 171 and 177-178 (for obverse) and RIC 177-178 (for reverse). Minor deposits, otherwise, good very fine.
From the Tetrarchy Collection, formed over the past twenty-five years.
This interesting imitation erroneously combines an obverse legend of Constantine with the portrait of Crispus!
