SERBIA. Stefan II Dragutin, as retired king, 1282-1316. Gros (Silver, 20 mm, 1.41 g, 12 h), circa 1300-1310. STEFAN - R(inverted)VX - STEFAN Stefan II standing facing on the left, holding akakia in his left hand and St. Stefan, nimbate, standing facing on the right, holding book of Gospels in his left hand; both holding, between them with their right hands, long banner. Rev. Christ, nimbate, seated facing on decorated throne and holding book of Gospels with both hands; in field to left and right, IC - XC. Jovanovic, SMC, -. Jovanovic, Srpski Srednjovekovni Novac, 7.2.5 (attributed to Stefan Uroš II). Extremely rare with the title RVX. Light areas of weakness, otherwise, extremely fine.

From a collection of coins from the medieval Balkans, ex Album 14, 21 September 2012, 1635 (with original ticket).

It has been suggested that this issue was struck after the abdication of Stefan II Dragutin as King of Serbia due to an injury in 1282, perhaps in circa 1300-1310, when he ruled Syrmia and was in frequent conflict with his younger brother and successor, King Stefan Uroš II.
