Scotland Bank of Scotland 1 Pound Waterston Essay/Colour Proof unadopted Reverse designs ND 1943, PMS 96 for type (5) all GEF, Exceptionally Rare and in different colours each ink numbered in lower centre margin as follows - No. 2 in Brown, No.3 in Olive-gray, No.4 in Green, No.5 in teal (blue-green) and No.6 in Blue. Each displaying the Bank's Head Office building at centre flanked by the Bank's Coat of Arms and value in each corner. In April, 1943 in advance of the Bank's 250th anniversary in 1945, the Bank started to consider redesigning their 1 Pound notes. A committee was setup and several essays were presented by Waterstons, until Stanley Curister, Curator of the National Gallery, was consulted and expressed a view that none of the designs were suitable and presented a whole new design with the Bank's Arms against a lined background which was approved in May 1944. These very seldom seen and offered for sale, so this a unique opportunity to acquire them and will certainly do a great addition to even the most advanced Scottish collections

Estimate: 400-600 GBP
