Both the star and octopus feature prominently on the coinage of Dionysios I at Syracuse. Previously attributed to an uncertain Sicilian mint due to the use of the star or sunburst motif by Campanian mercenaries on the island, the type should be securely re attributed to Syracuse on the basis of the unambiguously Dionysid motifs.
