GERMANY. Prussia. Convention of Pilnitz Silver Medal, 1791. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield.
Julius-1920. Issued for the convention of Pilnitz between Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick William II, King of Prussia, and Frederick Augustus III of Saxony (who probably struck this medal). Obverse: the accolated busts of the rulers right; reverse: Saxony, seated left with her shield, gestures towards the castle of Pilnitz. The convention dealt with the partition of Poland and peace with Turkey but is best remembered for the Declaration of Pilnitz, demanding the freedom of Louis XVI of France, then under revolutionary armed guard. Toned, some hairlines.
