Sicily, Leontini. Tetradrachm; Sicily, Leontini; c. 435-430 BC, Tetradrachm, 17.24g. SNG ANS-257 (same dies), Rizzo-pl. XXIII.4 (same dies). Obv: Head of Apollo laureate l. Rx: Lion's head l.; around, four barley corns and ethnic V (= ? upside down) ?? - [?] - ?? - ???.Until several decades ago this was one of the rarest and most beautiful dies of Leontini. While they now appear in the market, this is still one of the most beautiful dies and this example, other than a few minor, natural planchet defects from striking, is one of the finest examples .
