The Siege of Valenciennes in Northern France began on 13 June 1793, during the Flanders Campaign of the War of the First Coalition. The French garrison was captured on 28 July by Anglo-Austrian forces under the command of the Duke of York, General Joseph de Ferraris and the Prince of Saxe-Coburg. However, only a year later, in August 1794, the city was retaken by the French Revolutionary armies. Brown [BHM] cites only a single example, that in the British Museum
