The Pavilion Collection, Commemorative Medals, George IV, Accession and Coronation 1821, a handsome glazed medal mounted for display, formed of gilt copper clichés, signed TW on reverse (Thomas I. Wells), bust l., in Coronation robes and wearing collar of Order, ...ASCENDED THE BRITISH THRONE..., rev. crown on plinth, rose, thistle and shamrock either side, KING GEORGE IV, 70.5mm. (BHM.1094), the border a design of rose, thistle, oak and shamrock in wide band, repeated in the suspension ring, extremely fine and a rare survivor
The rose and thistle to either side of the crown on the reverse are picked out in a pink gold. Brown (BHM) incorrectly attributes the medal to Thomas Webb. See also lot 510.
