Brown [BHM] and Eimer list the Irish visit medals after the Hanover medals. The King left London on the 31 July and arrived in Ireland on 11 August, his 59th birthday, landing at Howth. Bad weather had caused a delay and the King heard the news of Queen Caroline's death before crossing the Irish Sea. Rather than dampen his spirits, the news seems to have given him renewed vigour and much of the visit was spent in the company of the 'ample though still handsome Elizabeth, Marchioness of Conyngham'. The King departed from Dun Laoghaire, renamed Kingstown in his honour, on 3 September.
