The Pavilion Collection, Commemorative Medals, George IV, Patron of the Arts, copper medal [1828], by Thomas Halliday, bare head l., GEORGIUS IIII D.G. BRITANNIARUM REX F.D., rev. legend within olive wreath, PATRON OF THE ARTS, plain edge, 42mm. (BHM.1333; Eimer 1204b), choice extremely fine
bt. R. Gladdle, May 2011
The obverse, with its coin-like portrait, was used with a second reverse, 'Improvement in the Art of Coining'; a medal dated 1828 and struck with a lettered edge. The portrait is very close to that on the Wyon coinage of 1825-30.
