Amédée Pierre Durand (1789-1873), studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, winning in 1810 the first Prix de Rome for medallions and the second prize for sculpture. He edited the Numismatica Universalis Virorum Illustrium, which was a series of medallic portraits of illustrious persons of all countries and executed over a number of years. Whilst this collection might hold two specimens, the medal of George IV is, in fact, seldom seen in commerce.
