ITALY, Genova. Overseas possessions. Æ Follaro (17mm, 2.11 g). Mint in Chilia or Enisala. Struck circa 1360-1390. Castle design / Cross pattée within linear circular border. See Baldwin's 94, lot 1205 (for another example); otherwise, unpublished in the standard references. Green and brown patina. VF. Extremely rare.

Chilia is located at the mouth of the Danube, not far from Isaccea (currently Chilia Veche, Romania) and the fortress at Enisala, where examples of these coins have been found, was built to defend the region from invasion by the Ottoman armies.
