Henry VI first reign (1422-61), Groat, Pinecone-Mascle/[Leaf-]Trefoil mule, Calais, 3.88g, 2h, m.m. cross patonce, pinecone stops in obv. legend (Whitton 30g-h/36; N.1461/1485; S.1875/1899), irregular flan, otherwise a bold fine or slightly better, very rare.

This intriguing coin is struck from the same reverse die as a Calais, Trefoil issue Groat, also recovered from the Reigate Hoard, cf. lot 338. As Silver output from the Calais mint was virtually non-existent at this period, this important mule could relate to either the 'Leaf-Trefoil' issue or, as previously indicated the core Trefoil issue
