Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, a contemporary forgery from false dies, struck in base silver, in the style of Group E, type 4.1, Tower, 3.22g, 7h, m.m. anchor (grapple-like), reads hi rex, crude portrait left, xii behind, rev. •:• (m.m.) •:• christo • avspice • regno, square-topped shield over cross moline (cf. Sharp F5; Brooker 1201 this coin; cf. N.2228; cf. S.2798), of evidently baser fabric than last, and slightly off-struck on a small flan, otherwise fine, the reverse better, rare, and with an excellent pedigree.
