Charles I (1625-49), Shilling, a contemporary forgery from false dies, struck in base silver, in the style of Group F, type 4.4, Tower (under Parliament), 5.04g, 8h, m.m. sun (on rev. only [?]), • carolv[s] d • g • mag • bri fr • et hib • rex, crude portrait left, xii behind, rev. •(m.m.)• christo • avspice • regno, square-topped shield over cross moline (cf. Sharp G1-2; Brooker 1208 this coin; cf. N.2231; cf. S.2800), a large striking crack, otherwise quite struck up, fine, the reverse better, with a remarkable pedigree.
