Struck circa 1030-1035. + CVNNPICNNIIVITNIVII, serpent curling leftward / NCCIINTPNVTNBICII : I, open linear convex cross with pellet terminals and pellet center; arches of pellets in quarters. While most early Scandinavian issues are based on Anglo-Saxon coin types a few, such as this coin, which features a curled serpent or worm on the obverse, were local innovations. Due to the crude and incomprehensible legends on this particular example, it may in fact be a later issue from the time of Magnus the Good (cf. Hauberg 25).
