SYRIA, Kingdom of, Antiochus I Soter, (281-261 B.C.). silver tetradrachm (16.65 g), Antioch on the Orontes, obv. diademed head of Antiochus I right, dotted border, rev. **BASILEWS ANTIOCOU*, Apollo seated left on omphalos, examining arrow held in right hand and resting left hand on grounded bow, **PAO* monogram in outer left field, XA monogram in outer right field, (S.6866, SC 335.6 [but without the erasures] cf.CSE 2, 108 = Antioche de Syrie pl. 3, A [same obverse die]. Rare and of attractive style. Off centred on obverse, otherwise good very fine and very rare.

Ex Dr. V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 107 (lot 3343) previously from Freeman & Sear Mail Bid Sale 15 June 27, 2008 (lot 152).
Antioche de Syrie (a corpus) lists only two specimens of this emission. In his commentary, Le Rider questions its attribution to Antioch but does not exclude the possibility of an Antiochene origin.
