QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - three clasps - Defence of Kimberley, Orange Free State, South Africa 1901. Tran: Offr: Capt: S.P.Waldek, Kim:Vol:Rgt: Engraved. Last bar loose, hairlines, otherwise good very fine.

Captain S.P.Waldek, Kimberley Volunteer Regiment, confirmed on list of QSAs with the clasp, Defence of Kimberley.

In the book, The Colonials in South Africa by John Stirling, pp186-89, reference is made to Captain Waldeck (note the different spelling) in Diamond Fields Horse, one of the volunteer units stationed at Kimberley. During a demonstration made towards Wimbledon Rifle Range during the Defence of Kimberley, Major Scott Turner of the mounted troops was killed, and other casualties included Cape Police, 2 killed, 8 wounded; Diamond Fields Horse, 3 killed, Captain S.P.Waldeck and 8 wounded.
