Pte Frederick Pawla, Second Contingent.
On Tuesday evening 22 January 1901 a splendid reception was accorded to Mr Fred Pawla of the A.M.C. by his fellow-club mates of the Redfern Bicycle Club. Fred had recently arrived back from South Africa and during intermission at the reception he was toasted and then replied by relating some of his experiences. No doubt one of these was when after an engagement at Witport he rode over the laager the Boers had left and one of the first things he came across was an 'Imperial Rover' bicycle which he was going to try and bring back to Australia. At the time he concluded that it would be quite an historical possession if he could manage to get it back.
