BARTOLOMEO COLLEONI MEDAL, 1940, in oxidised silver (58mm) by Amor (C.1940/2), obverse, HMAS Sydney advancing at full speed with the smoking and disabled Italian cruiser, Bartolomeo Colleoni, in background, reverse, a representation of the plaque presented by the City of Sydney to HMAS Sydney, edge inscribed, 'I.I.Bibby, E.R.A.1., O.N. 12522'. In unofficial case with small photo of recipient, toned, a few very minor edge nicks, otherwise nearly uncirculated and rare to KIA.

Ivo Ignatius Bibby, labourer, born 17Jul1899 at Ballarat, Vic; Enl. 29Jul1918 in AIF (service no.69001) at Melbourne, Vic with 2 years previous service with Sea Cadets; Emb.07Nov1918; troopship recalled approx 28Nov1918; Disch.24Dec1918; only medal entitlement was British War Medal; Enl.09Jul1920 in RAN at Home Port of Melbourne and then on 22Mar1932 altered to Home Port of Sydney; served with various ships and base depots; posted to HMAS Sydney 02Jun1938 at rank of ERA1; KIA 20Nov1941 when HMAS Sydney was lost without trace after a battle with the German auxiliary cruiser HSK Kormoran on 19Nov1941 off the West Australian coast; commemorated at the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, England and at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, ACT.
