TRIO: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 9496 Gnr W.T.Ryan. 6/F.A.Bde. A.I.F. on first medal, 9496 A-Sjt W.T.Ryan. 6 F.A.B. A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Mounted on a thin silver bar but no pin, very fine - good very fine.

Walter Thomas Ryan, civil servant, age 22, born at Brunswick, Vic; Enl.15Jul1915 at Melbourne, Vic; to Gunner 27Sep1915; Emb.22Nov1915; to Bombardier 07Apr1916; revert to rank of Driver at own request 10May1917; to Cpl 01Apr1918; to A/Sgt 06Jan1919; letter from Admin HQs in London advising of death from influenza of Walter Thomas Ryan, later found to be in error following a request for more details from Australia; RTA 27Apr1919; Disemb.10Jun1919 at Melbourne; Disch.02Aug1919.

After the war Walter Ryan returned to his job as an assessor with the Commonwealth of Australia Taxation Office, Melbourne. In 1924 he was a Tax Office witness in regard to the well reported trial for collection of land taxes of ?166,067 due by the famous pastoralist, Sir Sidney Kidman.
