Argentina
Tierra del Fuego. Territory gold "Popper" 5 Gramos 1889 MS62 NGC, Buenos Aires mint, KM-Tn8, Fr-2, Janson-7. One of two denominations struck in Buenos Aires by Julius Popper, a Romanian-born Jewish adventurer who was granted permission to mine gold and strike coins on the Argentine side of the island. The 5 Gramos is the scarcer of the two, and becomes quite rare and desirable in Mint State condition. This example is quite nice, lustrous and lightly reflective, with an even pale yellow coloration over the well-struck surfaces.
