Obverse: Exterior view of the cathedral from the southwest; Reverse: Interior view of the cathedral looking down the nave toward the apse, from a vantage point left of the center of the center aisle. Deep mahogany brown surfaces with a robust radiance in the fields.

With construction beginning in the late 11th century, the old edifice that would come to be Lincoln Cathedral was beset by numerous setbacks, such as fires and even an earthquake, the former of which are mentioned in the reverse text.
