ARCHITECTURAL MEDALS. Belgium - Germany. Opening of the Cologne-Mainz Railway Bronze Medal, 1859. Uncertain mint likely in Belgium. CHOICE MINT STATE.
Ross-M227; van Hoydonck-174; Reinecke-153. 70mm. By Jacques Wiener. Obverse: Jugate heads of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV and Prince Regent Wilhelm right; Reverse: View of the Cologne train station, with the Cologne Cathedral (still under some construction) in the background. Pleasing deep chocolate brown surfaces, with some alluring underlying luster. Includes original box of issue, though somewhat distressed. A rather RARE issue.

Not only offering a view of a locomotive and a charming architectural rendition of the train station as well as the ever-popular Cologne Cathedral--a topic of Wiener's vast 'Most Remarkable Edifices of Europe' series.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $150.00- $300.00
