WORLD WAR I MEDALS. Austria - Belgium - Germany - Great Britain. Battle of Antwerp/Kaiser Wilhelm II Silver Medal, 1914. Uncertain mint in Augsburg. MINT STATE.
Zetzmann-4038 (RR). 33mm. By Carl Drentwett. Obverse: Uniformed bust of Wilhelm left, wearing helmet surmounted by eagle; Reverse: Civic coat-of-arms of Antwerp within scroll. Highly lustrous and prooflike, with some scattered minor marks and hairlines. A hint of golden toning accentuates the devices. A VERY RARE type.

One of the early conflicts in World War I, Germany invaded Belgium and laid siege to Antwerp, eventually causing the fall of the city and the garrison there, and even taking some Belgians into forced service throughout the duration of the war.
