WORLD WAR I MEDALS. United States. U. S. Soldier Battling Dragon Uniface Bronze Medal, ND (1917). Balfour (Attleboro) Mint. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
The Art of Devastation-112. 59mm. By G. Petersen. Obverse: Soldier standing right, spearing dragon to lower right with bayonet; fallen woman at his feet; in background, Jesus Christ standing and blessing soldier; Reverse: Blank. A charming and rather SCARCE issue, this piece features pleasing tan-brown brown, though a square-shaped section of light discoloration is noted on the reverse, likely from an old collection ticket.
An interesting design, this type puts forward the idea that Christ himself is blessing the American involvement in the war, likening it to a veritable crusade.
From the Richard Jewell Collection.
Estimate: $100.00- $200.00
