WORLD WAR I MEDALS. United States. Metropolitan Life Insurance Co./War Savings Stamps Bronze Award Medal, 1918. Tiffany & Co. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
41mm. Obverse: Eagle, with wings spread and head right, standing facing on bundle of rods; Metropolitan Life Insurance building and sun rays in background; Reverse: Legend in 14 lines. Charming yellow-brown surfaces.

War Savings Stamps were introduced by the U.S. Treasury during involvement in World War I as a way in which funds necessary to carry on the war effort could be raised. Upon completion of a "booklet" of stamps, the user could redeem it for funds. The Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. teamed up with the government in this endeavor, awarding these medals to representatives who were able to sell $5,000 or more in such stamps.
