68mm. By Charles Pillet. Obverse: U.S. General Pershing and Colonel Stanton visiting the Front Lines with French Generals Petain, Foch, and Clemenceau; Reverse: French cockerel standing slightly left; rising sun in background. Pleasing reddish-bronze surfaces.

Having led a campaign against the renegade Pancho Villa in the southwest, General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing was selected by Woodrow Wilson to lead the American Expeditionary Forces in France starting in May 1917. By 1918, Pershing promised 100% cooperation with the French, increasing the American role in ending World War I.
