WORLD WAR I MEDALS. Austria - France - Germany - United States. Battle of Saint-Mihiel Bronze Medal, 1936. Paris Mint. MINT STATE.
By Edouard Fraisse. 68mm. Obverse: Female figure standing right (representing the United States), holding American standard, wearing radiate crown (a la the Statue of Liberty), and guiding soldiers fighting the background; Reverse: Shield, helmet, laurel branch, and map of the battle, with inscription in French and English below. Warm brown surfaces, with a few light marks and spots. A SCARCE and interesting type.

An important battle during the closing months of the war, Saint-Mihiel saw U.S. General John J. Pershing command over half a million troops against the Germans and Austrians, with the latter losing numerous soldiers in terms of both casualties and prisoners over the mere two days of fighting.

From the Richard Jewell Collection.

Estimate: $100.00- $200.00
